PSYCHIATRIC INJURIES
Severe/Moderate Psychiatric Damage Between £3450 and £67,200 depending on:-
- Effect on life and work;
- Effect on relationships;
- Success of medication;
- Whether medical help sought;
- Whether sexual or physical abuse is present;
- Likely outcome.
Minor Psychiatric Damage: Would include travel anxiety,
loss of sleep and stress over a period of time. Where the problem is temporary
anxiety the amount of compensation could be below at lower end of the range.
Between £840 and £3,450
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: is where a distressing
event, which is outside the range of normal human experience, causes specific
symptoms such as bowel and/or bladder control, reliving the event, difficulty
in controlling temper, poor concentration, lack of sleep and exaggerated
startle response. A diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder will need
to be made.
Between £2,300 and £58,500 depending on:-
- Effect on life and work;
- The effect of professional help;
- Whether a full recovery has been or will be made;
Chronic Pain
(a) Chronic Pain Syndrome: is where the nervous system
continues to send the body signals telling it that it is in pain, often
lasting for many years.
Between £6,350 and £37,150
(b) Fibromyalgia: is a disorder causing pain and tiredness
to the soft tissue in the body.
Between £19,850 and £37,150
(c) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: can cause a variety of
symptoms such as low energy, muscle pain, sleep and memory disturbance.
Around £28,750
(d) Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy: also called Complex
Regional Pain Syndrome causes increased sensitivity to normal stimulus
because of nerve irritation.
Between £14,750 and £58,500
(e) Somatoform Disorder: can cause a variety of symptoms
such as headaches, back pain, abdominal cramping and pelvic pain.
