New information shows the various risks of the beauty salons

A trip to a beauty salon or hair salon could have the potential to cause a great deal of harm new information has shown.

One harm is the possibility of MRSA from bikini waxes. Bikini waxes have some common problems that have gone wrong such as ingrown hairs or folliculitis which is infection of the hair follicle. Furthermore, if the treatment is not done properly it can cause the uppermost layers of the skin to be removed and it is at a higher risk to infection such as MRSA.

This is increasingly worrying if the salon uses the same spatula in the same pot of wax, this could transfer an infection from one client’s skin to another.

Another risk is the possibility of a stroke from a washbasin at the hairdressers. New research has shown that the position in which you place your neck while having your hair shampooed can cause a stroke and is known as Beauty Salon Stroke Syndrome. It is cause by the constriction of the artery in the neck and therefore the blood supply to the brain is cut off. The cut off of the blood supply can cause facial numbness, dizziness and possibly a blood clot.

Also, another treatment which has a risk is pedicures. There is a risk of boils from footbaths. The wet footbaths are a perfect environment for bugs to breed and although these baths are cleaned between clients, the pipes and filters are not necessarily cleaned between every client. It is therefore recommended not shaving or waxing for 24 hours before the pedicure so cuts are avoided which put the skin more likely to contract infection.

Lastly, there is a risk harm if clippers or scissors cut your skin during a manicure/pedicure or a haircut and the equipment isn’t sterilised then this can cause a spread in a blood borne infection such as Hepatitis C.

We act for a number of clients that have suffered injuries from hair and beauty salons. If you have suffered an injury that was not your fault you may be able to make a claim. It is important that you get independent expert legal advice, preferably as soon as possible from one of our specialist lawyers.

Once again, thank you for all your help and dedicated work. You played a pivotal role in shaping both mine and my wife’s road to recovery.
