A local Derbyshire construction worker has suffered an accident at work which resulted in severe injuries.
The accident involved the worker falling 6 metres to the ground from a roof that he was repairing panels on. The victim’s colleague attempted to help the victim however, the colleague was unable to help as he was stuck in a ‘man basket’ that did not have separate controls in order for him to manoeuvre it and help the victim. Therefore, the colleague had to climb down the boom of the machine to help the victim.
As a result of the of the accident, the worker sustained serious injuries to his head, hip and lungs.
An investigation into the accident found that there were not sufficient health and safety practices in place and the site lacked the necessary platforms or coverage on the roof to protect workers from falling.
