A woman suffered an allergic reaction after fitting a new case to her mobile phone. Her face swelled up and she could barely swallow and could not open one eye. A rash also formed which spread across her.
After fitting the new phone cover to her phone she noticed her face swelling up and she developed a rash no her face and neck with a sore in the shape of the phone from where she held it to her ear.
She went to hospital and received anti-histamines but the next day her face had swelled to such a level that she could not open her right eye and she struggled to swallow.
She underwent tests which revealed that she had 13 skin allergies and has been warned she is allergic to things such as jeans and coins. The case has triggered a nickel allergy which is the most common cause of skin contact allergies. In people allergic to nickel the body recognises the nickel as an infectious agent and causes inflammation and produces symptoms of burning, itching, redness, swelling and blisters. It is suspected that the allergy was triggered by the silicone in the iPhone case.
